 and Suggestions

  • Mosquitos: Not a problem along the Nile river. Only a mild problem in Siwa Oasis. I never used the repellant that I brought with me.
  • Plug Adapters: Egypt uses 220 volt 2 prong plugs. ( See below)
  • Weather: It essentially doesn't rain. Google the average temperature for the month you intend to travel.
  • Best Time To Travel: I traveled in July. The advantage is that this is not peak travel season for most visitors, and I felt at times that I had the place to myself. The disadvantage is that it is very hot. Be prepared. I was told that a good time to visit would be October and November as well as January to April but it can sometimes get crowded.  The weather is typically mild at those times.
  • Hydration and Restrooms: Public water fountains are not available. Sometimes restrooms are scarce as well. I would always drink an entire bottle of water first thing in the morning before breakfast, whether I was thirsty or not. This would help later in the day when water and/or restrooms may not be available. Since I did this immediately upon waking, my body would have time to circulate the fluids and I would use the restroom before I left my hotel room for the day.
  • Toilet Paper: At the risk of being too graphic, I only had bowel movements in my hotel room. Otherwise, I would use the public restrooms only to urinate. I did notice that toilet paper was scarce at times. If you think this might be a problem for you, I would carry some toilet paper with you, but not a whole roll. Just carry what you anticipate you may need for the day.
  • Passport: I would typically leave my passport in my hotel room in the room safe along with any cash money that I would be saving for the future. I made 5 copies of my passport. One copy was place in my checked  luggage, and one copy was carried with me at all times, and the rest were just extra copies I had on hand. Since the copy was a piece of paper and not the passport itself, it was easy to carry.  I was asked for my passport once while preparing for my desert safari in the Siwa Oasis and the copy that I had sufficed. Otherwise, I only needed it for hotel check-ins and airports.

Plug Adapters

These are the adaptors I used while in Egypt. I was able to charge my phone and plug in my laptop.

9 Pocket ScotteVest

9 Pocket ScotteVest

I never carried a backpack while touring. My hands were free. I was able to carry inside the vest a bottle of water, wallet, camera, battery pack, charging cords, tissues, sunglasses, and hand sanitizer.

Merrel Men's Moab 2 Vent Hiking Shoe

Merrel Men's Moab 2 Vent Hiking Shoe

So much of Egypt has uneven footing, particularly at the tourist attractions. These shoes performed great while traveling.

Coolibar UPF 50+ Men's Outback Camo Boonie Hat - Sun Protective

Egypt is very sunny. You will need sun protection. This Coolibar hat worked great. No sunburn on my head. Moreover, the chin strap came in hand for wind gusts while river cruising. Otherwise, I would simply tuck the strap in. Coolibar makes hats and clothing for women as well.
